Green Drinks Sunshine Coast - 14th September 2023 with guest speakers talking about an up and coming BioBlitz

Join us for Green Drinks on the Sunshine Coast!

Every month people who work in the environmental field meet up at informal sessions known as Green Drinks. These events happen throughout the world.

A lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business come together to network and share ideas. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organising network.

Please RSVP to attend, we look forward to connecting with you!

Guest Speakers

This month, we are excited to hear from Jess Raintree from Mooloolah River Landcare, Alexandra Hayes-Hatten from ECOllaboration and Barung Landcare about their up and coming BioBlitz.

What is a BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz is a citizen science-led intensive biological survey, centred around encapsulating the biodiversity of an area. BioBlitzes are extremely important as new species and range extensions have been recorded through these surveys. Furthermore, they provide an opportunity to close the gap between the experts and amateurs, whilst fostering a greater stewardship toward our land.

Details about the event

This October immerse yourself in ecology with a range of biological surveys around the Sunshine Coast, alongside scientists, local experts, and industry professionals!

Taking place across three weekends, the Sunshine Coast BioBlitz will be the most extensive yet, with activities taking place around the Sunshine Coast, run by Landcare organisations from Noosa to Maleny.

From beginner to expert, there will be something for everyone! Learn how to identify flora, fauna, fungi and more through our workshops. Watch demonstrations on thermal drone imaging, detection dogs and motion cameras. Then, put your newfound knowledge to work through field surveys alongside your peers and experts. The aim of our event is to connect citizen science with industry professionals, whilst collecting data to greater understand the biodiversity of our biosphere and greater inform future conservation action.
