Three intensive weeks of trial in the Maroochydore Planning and Environment Court saw the culmination of SCEC and Development Watch's appeal against Council's approval of Sekisui's inappropriate high-density development at Yaroomba concluded on 6th December.
We mounted a strong appeal in the face of substantially larger legal representation for both Council and Sekisui. We now await the judgement expected to be delivered in late March/early April 2020 which we of course hope is a positive one!
The conclusion of the trial marks the culmination of well over twelve months of concerted fundraising and significant effort to ensure our appeal was as strong as it possibly could be. We couldn't have done this without the magnificent support received from our wonderful Sunshine Coast community and those further afield who love Yaroomba too. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the appeal in so many ways. Whether by donating, volunteering, spreading the message, supporting events or attending court. And more! Knowing we had your support and were there for you as we undertook the exacting tasks and representations before and during the appeal strengthened our resolve.
We can take so much hope and pride from the way our community comes together to fight for the things that matter.
Friends of Yaroomba are still putting on some great events and activities, so please continue your invaluable support. We'll also keep you posted on any developments.
