Drilling is Killing Paddle Out
Join the Sunshine Coast Surfrider Foundation in the DRILLING IS KILLING paddle out. This event is part a nationwide paddle out to show support to the Great Australian Bight Alliance #FightForTheBight campaign. The Great Australian Bight is one of the most pristine ocean environments left on Earth, supporting vibrant coastal communities, jobs and recreational activities. Currently it is under threat by the proposal of large scale oil exploration. Not only is there potential for a catastrophic oil spill, the poorly understood effects of seismic testing, strike risk and noise pollution from drilling and boat traffic, and increased pollution have the potential to fundamentally disrupt this unique marine environment. Not to mention the impact the oil drilling may have to our future climate and to the important economic values of the region.
A peaceful paddle out will be hosted at the Buhk Park, Alexander Headland on the Sunday 24th February 2019.
