Join us for a special Green Drinks evening exploring marine conservation, coastal restoration and the future of our oceans.

🎤 Associate Professor Andrew Olds from the University of the Sunshine Coast will share insights from recent marine conservation projects across the Sunshine Coast, including wetland restoration and offshore reef biodiversity and conservation. Andrew will also discuss findings from his research across Queensland into the impacts of shark nets on marine wildlife, providing important context for discussion.

The talk provides a fascinating look at the challenges facing our coastal ecosystems, from wetlands and reefs to the wildlife affected by shark control measures, and the practical conservation approaches that can help create healthier oceans and safer beaches.

About the speaker

Associate Professor Andrew Olds

Andrew’s work on marine and coastal species, ecosystems and seascapes is helping to deliver practical solutions for conservation, restoration, fisheries and coastal stewardship. His research focuses on spatial ecology, biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and resilience, and he integrates these themes with training for community groups, citizen scientists and first-nations people. 

Andrew has over 20 years of experience working across universities, government, and private industry. He has designed, implemented, and managed major coastal conservation, restoration and monitoring projects in a diversity of tropical and subtropical seascapes. Andrew has also developed strong research, monitoring and training partnerships with government, NGOs, community groups and Traditional Owners across Australia and the tropical Pacific.
