Our Region
The Sunshine Coast is a remarkable region with beautiful forests, rivers, floodplains, ancient mountains, an iconic coastline and rich biodiversity. It is also under increasing pressure from development, climate change and habitat loss.
Our region includes 2 UNESCO listed biospheres, Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, with the Great Sandy Biosphere just to the north, highlighting just how significant this region is.
Who we are
Since 1980, the Sunshine Coast Environment Council (SCEC) has been the region’s peak environment body, an independent voice for nature bringing together over 50 member groups, along with individuals, families, and businesses working together to protect what makes this place so special.
What we do
SCEC protects the Sunshine Coast environment and lifestyle, we have a strong record of campaign successes. We work collaboratively across our networks, combining science, community, and advocacy to inform decisions, support sustainable development, and get better outcomes for a Sunshine Coast where nature and people can continue to thrive together.
