Register Now for National Tree Day Community Tree Planting at Barung Seed Forest

Sunshine Coast Environment Council (SCEC) is partnering with Barung Landcare this National Tree Day, Sunday, 26th July, to bring you this fabulous National Tree Day, community tree planting event. Exact start and finish times to be confirmed. 

National Tree Day is Australia's largest tree planting and nature care event, bringing communities together to restore and protect the natural environment. Join us for a rewarding morning of hands-on environmental action and help contribute to a greener, healthier future for our region.

On the day, we won't just be planting a tree – we will be making a forest: a fast-growing microforest.

A microforest is a small, diverse and very dense planting of local native species. This innovative restoration method allows forests to establish and grow rapidly, improving biodiversity in the shortest possible time while creating vital corridors for wildlife to move between patches of remnant forest.

Before the planting, Cam Burton will be giving a talk and tour of the first Barung microforest, which was planted in 2020. This is a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand how these small forests can create rapid habitat for native species, improve soil health and water quality, and become thriving community spaces.

Following the tour, the planting begins, with the aim of establishing 500 rainforest trees in a section of the Barung Landcare garden.

Whether you're an experienced tree planter or simply looking for a meaningful way to spend a Sunday morning, this is a fantastic opportunity to connect with like-minded people, learn about innovative ecological restoration, and help create habitat that will benefit local wildlife and ecosystems for generations to come.
